Fredericka “Freddie” Costin Di Sarno, age 94, of Wilmington and Hampstead, NC passed away at NHRMC on January 8, 2022.

Freddie was born on February 21, 1927, in Wilmington, NC to the late Matthew Herbert Costin, Sr. and Myrtie Brown Costin. She was married to the late Samuel Joseph Di Sarno.

Freddie is survived by her much loved sons, Joseph Di Sarno (Doreen), Jack Di Sarno (Susan) and Sammy Di Sarno (Mary Ellen), special sister-in-law Barbara Costin; grandchildren: Joey Di Sarno, Gina Luage (Arvin), Angela Britt (Jeff), Anthony Di Sarno, Michelle Crisco (Wayne), Stephen Di Sarno (Alexa) and Josh Di Sarno; great-grandchildren (10): David Stokely, Greta La Fave, Natalie Mims (Joel), Briana Luage, Bryson Morgan, Saylor Crisco, Kaylee Crisco, Allessandra Luage, Fisher Crisco, and Poppy Di Sarno; great-great grandchild, Ophelia Mims, and a number of beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Freddie is predeceased by her brothers, Matthew Herbert Costin, Jr. and B.C. Costin, Sr.

Freddie retired from New Hanover Memorial Hospital in 1986 where she had served as Cafeteria Supervisor for 19 years.

She was a member of Living Waters Ministries.

Freddie was a Godly woman. She loved Jesus and lived a Christian life. She was a loving and devoted mother to her sons and considered their wives as her daughters. Her grandchildren (including greats) were her pride and joy. All who knew Freddie loved her.

Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 12, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. You are invited to attend a funeral service on Thursday, January 13 at 2:00 PM at the funeral home, officiated by the Revs. Danny Justice and Joey Canady. If you are unable to attend in person, there will be a special Live Stream of the funeral service on Thursday, 2:00 PM, that you may join by going to Freddie’s obituary page and click the Live Stream picture at that time. The Live Stream will come on automatically when the service begins.

The funeral service will be live-streamed below for those unable to attend.

A burial service will be held on Friday, January 14 at 11:00 AM at the Wilmington National Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Anthony Di Sarno, Joey Di Sarno, Josh Di Sarno, Jeff Britt, Wayne Crisco and B.C. Costin, Jr.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Maranatha Missionary Outreach, P.O. Box 142, Orchard Park, NY 14127.

The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the staff at Woodbury Wellness/Stonebridge/Memory Care Unit for the loving care you provided to Freddie during the two years she spent at your facility. Also, special thank you to the physicians, nursing staff and palliative care staff at the NHRMC Emergency Department for the excellent care provided to Freddie and the compassionate care rendered to our family.
