Gail Benton Moore

Gail Elizabeth Benton, a long-time resident of Wilmington, passed away Tuesday, May 28th, at her home.

Born on January 25th, 1947 in Rome, NY, she was the second child of John and Betty Rivenbark. She earned her accounting degree from Cape Fear Commmunity College and utilized her degree for J.L. Jack Hydraulics Company and the New Hanover County Business Tax Office.

Gail’s laugh filled up a room and there never was a better story teller. She was an encyclopedia of family lore and always had a pot of coffee waiting. Every gift she ever received was exactly what she needed and her favorite color was green. She loved the Bay at the South End, making her friends and family laugh, playing with her grandchildren and hosting at Christmas. In middle school at Tileston, underneath the gym, Gail would arrive early to shag dance with her classmates and she was truly gifted. It would be a talent that would be mentioned again and again when friends and family were asked to describe Gail’s youth. Gail was fiercely loyal, full of wit and loved her family with every ounce of her soul.

In additon to her parents, she is predeceased by her brothers, John W. Rivenbark III, John W. Rivenbark IV and her son Bobby Ray Benton, Jr. She is survived by her son John Kevin Benton (Barb), her grandchildren Jesse Hudson,Belinda Gail Benton and Courtney Benton, her great grandchildren Anthony, Angelo and Brock, and her baby sister, Denise Rivenbark Lewis, and many loved nephews and nieces.

Gail, Nanny, Aunt Gail, Sister, Mom, Friend. You were so much to so many and you will be so missed.

A memorial will be held at 11am on Friday June 7th at Wilmington Funeral and Cremation, 1535 South 41st Street, Wilmington, NC.

I am so sorry for your loss, Loosing a loved one is traumatic and very difficult. However Jesus said at John 5:28, 29 “The hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out,. . .” We so look forward to that. My Sincere condolences. Minister D

Denise, I am so sad that I did not get to see Gail before she passed, but I'm so thankful for my phone conversation with her in February. It was like old times. I will miss her very much. May God grant you and her family peace beyond understanding. God bless
