Garth William Conn 72, passed away February 16, 2022 in Wilmington,NC.

He was born November 1, 1949 in Norfolk, VA to the late Leroy Ghear Conn and Jaqueline Marie Krom Conn.

Garth is survived by his wife Barta; son Joshua and wife Amy Conn (Newburgh, NY); daughters Tara and husband Mike Lamont (Los Gatos, CA), Erin and husband Ian Colahan (San Jose, CA); grandchildren Ryan, Logan, Elle, Riley, Makenzy, Violet and Tanner who were the light of his life; brother David Conn (Milton, NY); and several beloved nieces and nephews.

Garth was a lifelong educator with the Newburgh Enlarged City School District located in Newburgh, NY.

His larger-than-life personality was felt by all that knew him. He was happiest when he was surrounded by family and making his loved ones smile.

A celebration of life will be determined at a later date.

In lieu of flowers please consider a memorial donation to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

    When we walked into the Brunswick Forest Clubhouse almost 12 years ago for a meet and greet of those that just moved into the community we had no idea we were about to meet friends in Garth and Barta who became like family. Many memories were made traveling, days at the beach, luppers, dinners out or an evening of playing cards. Our relationship was sympatric and we all just clicked. Rick and Garth became BFFs as Barta put it, kindred spirits and the two had that A++ personality. To say we are heartbroken and crushed is an understatement, we will miss him, he was a generous, kind and gentle man who loved his family and those closest to him fiercely. Our love and prayers go out to Barta, Josh, Tara and Erin along with their families. You all were who he lived for, shopped for no matter where we went and wanted close to him. We extend our sympathies to his extended family and life long Newburgh friends. May God grant us all peace today and in the days ahead as we walk a different path without him. Garth, Rest In Peace "Buddy" and we look forward to the day we are reunited to sit in our chairs on the beach, have our lunch and watch the waves come in.......until then our dear friend.

    By far, he was the most kind-hearted man to help shape and nurture my formative elementary school years. Without a stable male in the house, I often leaned on father figures in the form of teachers, coaches, or mentors. Mr. Conn sat solidly at the very top of that list. I am truly saddened to see this heartbreaking news. For all of us whose lives were touched and undeniably changed for the better, he will never be forgotten.

    Brent and I were very saddened to hear about the sudden passing of “Uncle Garfo.” We remember so many good times together-laughing, joking, eating. Garth had a youthful, fun-loving spirit that was contagious. Our hearts go out to Barta, Josh, Tara, Erin and grandchildren as they go through this sad time. We know he will be greatly missed.     We are so sorry Barta and family for the loss of your beloved Garth. We remember when we were all together he was so friendly and welcoming. Garth was so easy to talk to and fun-loving, remembering all those great parties you had in Venice. He always had wonderful things to say about you and his children and grandchildren who he adored. He is at at peace with the Lord in "Il Paradiso" and the other day I heard a bell ring so we know Garth got his wings.
