George Wray Pickett 89, of Stanley, NC formerly of Leland died Wednesday April 5, 2023 at the University Place Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Charlotte after a short illness. He was the widower of Marion Fay Pickett who died on March 14, 2019.

George was born in Brunswick County, NC December 31, 1933 the son of the late Clarence Marion and Lella Edwards Pickett. He retired from the City of Charlotte Public works department and was a member of West Port Baptist Church. He loved being outdoor and was a true sportsman at heart. He served his country in the United States Army.

Surviving is his son Keith Pickett and wife Barbara of Stanley brother Graham Pickett and wife Brenda and sister Clarine P. Hall. His granddaughters Lauren Nichole Preston and Megan Marie Pickett. Also surviving is Nephews Jonathan Pickett and Malcolm Hall Nieces Sara Baldwin and Susan Dimuzio.

Funeral Service will be conducted 11:00 AM Thursday April 13, 2023 at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Wilmington, NC. The Reverend Jay Young will officiate the service.

The family will see friends on Wednesday April 12, 2023 at Wilmington Funeral Chapel from 4:00–6:00 PM.

George was a wonderful person I met at church. George sat in front of me and my husband every Sunday morning. I don’t think George ever got over losing Marion and he mentioned her every week when we talked. I’m thankful I got to know him and Marion. We have missed seeing George during the past few months. We are praying for Keith and family during this time of loss.
