George Clontz “Butch” Kornegay, 61, of Holly Ridge, NC passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at his home.

Born on October 16, 1951 in Wayne County, NC, he was the son of the late George Clontz Kornegay, Sr. and Retha Elizabeth Bostic Kornegay.

Surviving are his pseudo-spousal unit, Sarah Winkler; two sons, Dusty Kornegay (Joy) of CA, Shawn Winkler of IL; two daughters, Susi Boyd (Matt) of Greenville, NC, Shannon Winkler (Daniel) of Holly Ridge; a sister, Terri Killette of Goldsboro, NC; five grandchildren, Ta Kornegay, Fern Kornegay, Alfie Kornegay, Christopher Boyd, and Samantha Boyd; and three nieces, Meredith Karcher, Jaime Wiggins, and Lindsay Killette.

Family and friends are welcome to visit at the home of Mr. Kornegay.

    I knew George from Jr. High, High School and ECU. He is a fraternity brother and will be missed. I can still remember hearing his name quite often on the radio carrying the football for Goldsboro High during their games He was a great player. He was also a good friend.

    George will be missed. He was a good friend to Linda and me during our dating and engagement. He was in our wedding and our friend through all these years. George was instrumental in the establishment of Sigma Tau Sigma at ECU and was a dear friend to all of the brothers. I am so handful that we had our recent reunion and we all had an opportunity to be with George before he passed away.
