George Stanley “Stuffy” Hansley, beloved, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend to many, passed away on September 6, 2023, at the age of 91 in Surf City, NC. He was born on December 1, 1931, in Hampstead, NC. He came from a large family of seven girls and four boys.

Stuffy was preceded in death by his loving wife of 42 years, Audrey Lanier Hansley, who passed away in 2003. May her memory be eternal. He was also preceded in death by his father, Lester Hansley, and mother, Lena Saunders Hansley.

Stuffy dedicated many years of his life to his work at Farmers Supply Company in Wilmington before he retired in 1996. His strong work ethic and commitment to excellence earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and customers alike.

Stuffy was a proud member of various organizations, including Orient Lodge #395 A.F. & A.M., Wilmington York Rite Bodies, Sudan Shriners, Wilmington Shrine Club, Pender County Shrine Club, and a Charter member of the Arab Choo-Choo Shrine Unit. He was a Mason and Shriner for over 50 years. These affiliations allowed him to foster lasting friendships and serve his community with passion and dedication.

Stuffy faithfully served in the US Navy from November 9, 1955, to August 9, 1957. His time in the Navy shaped his character and instilled in him values of honor, loyalty, and sacrifice.

Stuffy leaves a profound void in the lives of those he cherished. He is survived by his devoted son Stan Hansley and wife Robin Hansley, and his step-daughter Rhonda Bass Hatchett and husband Dave. His memory will forever be treasured by his grandchildren Trent Hansley, McKenzie Hansley, Beverly Blankenship, Scott Blankenship, and his great-grandchildren, Ophelia, Blake, and Tilly and other step great grandchildren. One surviving sister, Sandra Hansley. Stuffy had a special friend and Brother Mason, Dan Lennon and his other close friends were Martin Skipper, Boo Batts, and his buddy Jesse Lea, who passed before him.

Stuffy will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his kindness, and his remarkable sense of humor. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

May Stuffy rest in eternal peace, knowing that his legacy lives on in the hearts of those who loved him.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm Sunday, September 10, 2023 at Wilmington Funeral Chapel.

Funeral services are planned for 11 am Monday, September 11, 2023 at Wilmington Funeral Chapel led by Rev. Kevin Groves. Masonic Rites will be conferred by Orient Lodge # 395 A.F. & A.M. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park with Military Honors conferred by the US Navy Honor Guard.

His pallbearers will be Jerry Edens, Jr., Gregory Edens, Randy Elderdice, Paul Bryan, Matt Burleson and Jerry Burleson.
