Gerald Arthur Bishop (Gerry), age 91, passed away June 24, 2022. He was born January 31, 1931 in Columbus, Ohio to parents Arthur Shealor Bishop and Brenda Cromer Bishop. Gerry spent most of his life in Blacksburg, Virginia however and considered the New River Valley his true
home.
As a young man, Gerry served in the Army during the Korean War. Upon his return, he received specialized training in electronics (Aster) and computer systems. In 1988 he retired from the Department of the Army where he served as a Communications Specialist for over 30 years. Gerry is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy Spivey Bishop, his parents, as well as his brother, Robert Bishop.
He is survived by his beloved daughter, Deidre Bishop Armstrong, and grandson, Brock Addington Armstrong.
Respecting his wishes, the family will not plan a formal service commemorating his passing. Instead, there will be a simple graveside inurnment held in Blacksburg, Virginia on a date yet to
be determined.
