Gloria Josephine Ball

Memorial Gifts & Donations

Gloria Josephine Ball, of Castle Hayne, NC went home to be with our Lord, completing her journey here after 87 years.
Gloria was born in Newark, NJ to the late Stanley and Anna Kankowski (Rabenda). Preceding her in death were a brother Raymond and sister Irene (Brockman). Gloria had resided in Scotch Plains, NJ for 40 years and was a member of St Bartholomew’s Church. Gloria loved traveling, baking, crafting, volunteering at the local food pantry and attending Red Hat Society luncheons. She was an avid gardener and an active member of the Garden Club for many years.

Gloria’s faith was very strong and she always put God and others before herself. Her home was the gathering place for family, friends, neighbors, and the friends of her children as well.

Gloria was a devoted wife to the late Robert F Ball for over 35 years. They adored each other and on what would have been his birthday this September 18th, they reunited and are celebrating being with our Lord, together for eternity.

Gloria was a very caring and loving mother who treasured her four children. Her two eldest sons Robert J. and James S. preceded her in death and we take comfort in knowing they are together again. She was a loving Grandmother and Great-Grandmother and was fondly known as Mamie. She leaves behind to cherish her many loving memories: a son Thomas Ball and a daughter Karen Hooker (Kenneth), her grandchildren: Nichole, Jennifer, Melissa, Michael, and Angelina, her great-grandchildren: Mia, Amirah, Ava, Zayan, Laila, Hakeem, and Clyde. Her Nieces, Nephews, many dear friends and her loyal fur-baby, Milo.

Gloria’s kindness and warmth has touched many lives. She was a beautiful lady with an enormous heart. She will be greatly missed.

A service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, October 2, 2021, at Bethany Presbyterian Church, 2237 Castle Hayne Road, Wilmington NC
by the graveside of her son, James, who passed this June. Gloria’s final resting place will be at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains, NJ beside her husband and son, Robert.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in Gloria’s memory can be made to Bethany Presbyterian Church, St Jude for Children, The Lions Club, Veterans, or any charity of your choosing

    Liz Kane says:
I'll miss you, my sister-in-law. Our visits were always precious to your brother, Ray, and to me. I know your visits will be even more precious now as you re-unite in the Lord's home for the rest of eternity.

    Bill Brockman says:
Back in the 1950s Aunt Gloria and Uncle Bob were my favorite babysitters, and then in later years welcoming hosts for those wonderful Christmas gatherings in Scotch Plains. I'll miss Gloria's warmth and dedication to the family. My love goes out to Karen and Tom and the extended families.
