Gordon Franklin McLaughlin III, 53, of Wilmington, passed away Saturday, July 2, 2011, at his residence.

Gordon was a member of Unity Church where he served as Sexton. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing the guitar, and helping others.

He is survived by his wife, Teddie; his son Andrew; his daughter, Meredith; mother, Deana Shaw; brothers, Michael McLaughlin and wife Tina, Brian McLaughlin and wife Bobbie Lynn; step-brothers, Scooter Holder and wife Lisa, Ronnie Holder and wife Kelly; and step-sister, Kim Powell and husband Bryan.

Memorial services will be held at Unity Church at 2 PM on Friday, July 8, with reception to follow.

    Very sorry to hear of your loss, Gordy and I were football teammates as well as good buddies back at Hoggard many years ago. He had a great personality and always made everyone around him smile and have a good time. He was truly a great teammate and friend.

    We are so sorry to hear about the loss of Mr. McLaughlin. Over the years my father, Mel Tootoo, has shared so many great memories of Gordy and him growing up and playing football. It was such an honor to know Mr. Mclaughlin and his family. He was a great man, who always welcomed me and my family with a huge smile and a tale of the memories he shared with my dad. He had a passion for his family, especially his wife and children. I can remember attending football games in high school and always hearing his voice cheering on Andrew as he played and he and Mrs. Teddie sitting side by side. He will be greatly missed and thank you McLaughlin Family for sharing this wonderful, kind man with me and my family over the past years.
