Gordon “Wayne” Saunders, 76, of Winnabow, beloved husband of Julia Ann Watson Saunders, passed away Wednesday, September 19, 2018.
Wayne was born in New Hanover County on Feb. 19 1942 of the late George E. Saunders and Adell B. Saunders Potter of Wilmington, NC. He was one of four children, him being the oldest. His other siblings was Jerry R. Saunders ( Betty), Carolyn, the late George E. Saunders II (Butch) (Kaye). Gordon married Julia A. Watson Saunders on March 8th 1964, they had five children; Linda G. Leadmen (Joe) of Winnabow, the late Gordon W. Saunders Jr. of Fayetteville, NC, Charles E. Saunders of New Bern, NC, Kimberly S. Burns (David) of Riegelwood, NC and Timothy M. Saunders (Crystal) of Wilmington, NC. Mr. Saunders had six grandchildren Ashley E. Ledmen, Robert M. Ledmen III, Kayla L. Bell (Tony), Christopher A. Burns (Jessica), Joshua H. Burns, Greysen W. King and step grandson Bentley Beckworth , he also had five great grandchildren Cadynce, Sophia, Jase, Wade, Jake and Aonstey, whom he loved and cherished so dearly. Mr. Saunders served in the United States Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. Gordon was an avid hunter and fisherman, but also loved doing anything to help others out no matter the situation or the expense. He loved and served the Lord whole heartedly for many of years..
His visitation will be held Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Wilmington Funeral Chapel with funeral services being held 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Chapel. Burial, with military honors, will be in Northwood Cemetery at a later date.
