Gwendolyn “Gwen” Greer Powell, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, left this earth on January 20, 2011, two months after being diagnosed with cancer. She was one of a kind and will be missed by all that knew and loved her.

Gwen was married for 25 years to the love of her life, Richard “Rick” Powell. She loved her family and friends, working in her yard, arts & crafts, her dogs, and the special relationships she had with her co-workers at Topsail Animal Hospital in Hampstead, NC.

She was born on April 4, 1955, in Philadelphia, PA, and was the daughter of the late Arden and Margaret Greer. She is survived by her loving husband, Rick Powell; two sons, Jason Anzur of Anderson, SC, and Ryan Anzur and wife, Summer, of Belton, SC; one granddaughter, Addelyn Rain of Anderson, SC; two sisters, Louise Smith and husband, Mike, of Middlesex, NC, and Susan Wertley of Ashburn, VA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her brother, Loyd Greer of Phoenix, AZ.

There will be a visitation 6 – 8 PM, Monday, January 24, 2011, at Wilmington Burial and Cremation Service, 1535 South 41st Street Wilmington, NC.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC, 28401, or American Cancer Society, PO Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK, 73123-1718.

    My heart is very torn to find out that my favorite cousin has is Heaven Bound. Even though I have not seen her in awhile. She is always in my thoughts and the memories, pictures, growing up together, going to school together will remain in my memory forever. I love you Gwen... I always have and always will.
