Gwendolyn “Gwen” Gurganious Horwath, age 69, of Wilmington, NC went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday, December 5, 2011 at NHRMC.

She is survived by her loving husband Raymond “Ray” Horwath; son, Gary Leach and wife Mary Ann of Wilmington; daughters Loyce “Jean” Spriggs and husband Ricky of Canyon Lake, Texas and Kim DeShon and husband Jeff of Battle Creek, Michigan; daughter-in-law Kim Horwath of Houston, Texas; mother Mattie “Loyce” Gurganious of Wilmington; brothers, Ronny Gurganious and Harlee Gurganious, Jr. and wife Connie; sisters, Catherine Gurganious, Lynda Fallin and husband Dallas, Freda Williford and husband Chuck, Rowena Daughtrey and husband James, ten Grandchildren, and eight Great-grandchildren.

Gwen was preceded in death by her sons, Raymond Louis Horwath at age 26 and infant son Joseph Louis Horwath; sister Joyce Gurganious; and father Harlee B. Gurganious, Sr.

Gwen was an active member of Scotts Hill Baptist Church, and a volunteer for Good Shepherd’s Ashley House and Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). She was a member of Christian Motor Cyclists Association (CMA), Rolling Thunder NC-3 and Port City Southern Cruisers Riding Club, Patriot Guard Riders (PGR).

Gwen was an American Gold Star Mother (mother of a fallen veteran, Raymond Louis “Louie” Horwath of Desert Shield).

The family will see friends at 1:30 pm Saturday, December 10, 2011 followed by a memorial service at 3 PM at Scotts Hill Baptist Church, 185 Scotts Hill Loop Rd., Wilmington, NC 28411.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to CMA Run for the Son, 3008 Hayden Dr., Wilmington, NC 28411.
