Harold William Chambers, Sr.

Memorial Gifts & Donations

Harold William Chambers, Sr., age 86, went home to our Heavenly Father on Monday, September 4, 2023. He was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania; the son of Joseph and Lillian Chambers, who predeceased him.

He is survived by his children, son Harold Chambers, Jr., (Mishelle); daughter Susan Horne (Benjamin); Andrew Chambers (Linda) and Timothy Chambers. He was blessed with 8 grandchildren and was affectionately known as “Papa Bear”. He is also survived by a sister, Josie Robinson of Salisbury, Maryland and a beloved sister in law, Bonnie Davis (Kelly) of Ft. Collins, Colorado.

Pop, as he was also called, was a great husband, father and friend to all. He was a retired pastor who loved Jesus with all his heart, mind and soul. He treated people with kindness and always a loving smile. He was a huge Broncos fan and had gathered quite a collection of fan memorabilia.

He was married to his wife, Joyce, for 66 years, and the family takes solace in the fact that he has rejoined her in Heaven as their marriage was a long-lasting true love that was a sight to behold. Pop loved nothing better than taking care of and doting on his wife and he did so in a wonderful, compassionate manner until her passing in 2022.

Pop also loved to go for long rides to Ft. Fisher with his son. But first they would go to his favorite restaurant, The Sawmill, where they would gather with newfound friends and acquaintances who would come over to the table and chat with Pop about the morning.

His son said he almost always cried when he left the restaurant because he couldn’t believe that people cared that much for him. It meant so much to him after the passing of his wife to have that “family” and we will always be so very grateful for their love and caring.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at a future time.

The family truly wishes to thank and acknowledge the loving care of the nurses, doctors and caregivers from Lower Cape Fear Palliative Care who assisted Pop in his final days.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare at the link under “Memorial Gifts and Donations”.

My Harold...or Pop! I've known Harold for at least 42 years that I can remember. He was the sweetest most loving man I've ever met. He will be missed...I love him...God knows he's got a good one!

Uncle Harold was the life of the party. We traveled frequently to Colorado and one summer to Wisconsin for family visits. He was the perfect tour guide. He took us to all the hot spots and made sure our vacations were memorable. I have vivid memories of his prayers over our family meals and send offs as we prepared to travel back home. Thanks for the treasured memories, Uncle Harold.

What an awesome human being he was. I don’t know if I ever saw Harold without a smile on his face and every single time i interacted with him, he was warm & kind and genuinely cared about how I was doing & what was going on in my life and those close to me. The world needs more people like him and, although my heart hurts to hear of his passing, everyone who knew him and Joyce knows he’s smiling beside her and holding her hand. I feel lucky to have known them both.
