Harris Bobbitt Kern, age 70, of Hampstead, passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2017, at his home in the warm embrace of his family.

He was born on October 7, 1947 in Alexandria, VA. the son of Marvin Harris Kern and Elizabeth Esther Brockwell Kern.

Harris served his country with honor and distinction in the United States Navy during the Vietnam war.

He worked for many years as an executive in the Telecommunications industry.

Harris is survived by his beloved wife Karen; son Paul Kern (Erin) and daughter Mary Hundley (Frank) and grandchildren Mia, Allie and Ava and William and Nicholas Hundley.

Family and friends will gather for a committal service at the Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Montford Point Road Jacksonville , NC 28541, on Friday, October 20, 2017, at 12:00PM.

A rendering of Military Honors will be presented in recognition of Harris’s honorable and faithful service to his country.

    Harris and I met when we were very young. At one point, we lived across the street in Taxument , Virginia. I lovingly said we were "playben buddies". His parents were good friends with my parents. May he be having a warm and wonderful time in heaven. I'll see you again Harris.
