Memorial Gifts & Donations

Heather Spear Grant, 36 of Wilmington, NC, unexpectedly left this earth on Wednesday, November 30th, 2022. Heather was born in Cleveland, TN on July 22nd, 1986. She moved to Wilmington as a young girl where she made many friends riding bikes, surfing, playing sports as well as enjoying the beach.

She never met a stranger. Heather was an active softball player all the way through high school. She graduated from Hoggard High School in 2005. She started volunteering as a firefighter at Federal Point Fire Department at the age of 18. She continued the path of community service by volunteering at the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher. She began her career with Food Lion at the age of 16 and worked at the job she loved until her untimely passing.

Heather always had a first responder’s heart. She has had many moments in her life when those skills have saved others. She was a hero and expected nothing in return. Heather was a bright light in an often dark world. We are all better for knowing her.

She had many roles as a wife, mother, daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin, aunt, but most of all, a friend to everyone she met. Heather’s mission was to take care of people. She shined brightest being married to her husband Brian and caring for her two loving children Maddie and Bella. She lived for her girls and their happiness. Her daughters felt their mother’s love as Heather always made sure they knew how much she cared and loved them. They will always be Mommy’s girls forever.

Heather was the youngest child and only daughter to Pat and Rusty Spear. She was the rock that held them all together and led them through the hard times. Their rock was taken from them too soon. Although naturally a tomboy, Heather was her mother’s beautiful girl. Instead of fluffy dresses, Heather chose jeans that would be eventually covered in dirt. As Heather grew into a young woman, she and her mom enjoyed the finer things that ladies enjoy, like getting their nails done and shopping together. They spent many nights cuddled together for family movie nights. She was also a Daddy’s girl to the core. Heather and her father could be found everywhere together. Whether it be bowling leagues, October Fest, or deep-sea fishing, there wasn’t an activity around that the two didn’t make the most out of. They were always there for each other.

Heather loved her extended Spear/Gregory family. Heather spent hours with her cousins and made great memories. She loved all her Aunts and Uncles and greeted them with big hugs and smiles.

Heather married into the Grant family on May 16th, 2009, and took her husband’s name as well as his family with extreme joy and love. Her father-in-law, Kenny Grant, and her mother-in-law, Susan Grant, as well as her brother-in-law, Joey, and later his wife, Ashlyn, welcomed Heather into their lives with open arms. She instantly became that bright light they didn’t even know they needed. Heather showered the Grant’s with that same love and affection she showed for her own family. They will all miss her greatly.

Heather was the definition of a true friend. She was always there when you needed to laugh, cry, be happy, sad, or mad. She was the friend that showed up and cleaned your house because you couldn’t get out of bed. Brought you soup when you were sick and came to sit with you just so you weren’t alone. Her love was so big and beautiful. Heather was one of a kind. There will never be another person on this earth like Heather. What a gem she was.

She is survived by her husband Brian Grant, daughters Maddison and Bella Grant, parents Rusty and Patricia Spear, and brother Sean Spear (Alisha); all of Wilmington, NC, Paternal Grandmother Mary Spear (New Bern, NC), Aunt Rhonda, Aunt Kristy, Aunt Robin (Kermit), Aunt Ellen Sanders (David), Aunt Glenda Gregory (John), Aunt Barbara (Brian), and Uncle William (Susan), many cousins. She is also survived by in-laws Kenny and Susan Grant, brother-in-law Joey Grant (Ashlyn), and her only niece Jenevieve. Along with many close friends, including her best friend Amber Gough and family.

She is proceeded in death by both her maternal Grandparents Edward and Nerina Gregory; her paternal Grandfather Preston Spear, Aunt Becky Spear, and her Uncle Jim Sanders.

There will be a celebration of life for family and friends on Friday, December 9th, 2022 at 11 o’clock in the morning at Southside Baptist Church located at 3320 S. College Rd. Wilmington, NC 28412.

The family would like memorials to be directed to her daughters’ Trust Fund.
