Mrs. Helen M. Bowen, 92, passed on to be with her Lord and Savior Tuesday, January 12th at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Born on February 27th, 1928 in Omar, West Virginia to Bill Manuel and Lucretia Turner. She is survived by her only Daughter Debra Divers Wilson and Son-In-Law. Victor Wilson of the home, 2 Grandchildren, Christie Divers Linz and husband Raymond Linz, (Wilmington) Kevin Divers and wife Amy Divers (Burlington). 6 great grandchildren Alan Linz (Lindsey), Joshua Linz (Regan) Preston Divers, Nathan Divers, Riley Dumm, and Alex Divers. One special sister Betty Earles of West Virginia. One niece Sharon Ketchum (Arlo), three nephews, Gregory Earles (Faye), Nick Manuel, Mark Wilson (Sheila). Several great nieces and nephews. Helen loved her family, they meant everything to her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Betty Jane Bowen, Sister Virginia Wilson, Brother Bill Manuel and niece Helen Wilson.

Helen is a member of The First Baptist Church of Carolina Beach. She sang in the choir for 47 years. Some members of the choir said she was the “only alto the choir needed”. She had a beautiful voice.

Helen took much joy in writing and sending cards. That was her ministry. She sent heartfelt messages to each and every person she wrote. It thrilled her when people thanked her for her special cards that meant so much to them, years after receiving them.

Helen worked in many fields throughout her life. She worked for a credit union, assistant to a hospital administrator, for the New Hanover County Register of Deeds office, legal secretary for a local attorney and for a local Real Estate Company in Carolina Beach where she retired at age 66.

The family would like to thank Dr. Howard Ruscetti and his Nurse Patty Kenney of Federal Point Medical Center in Carolina Beach. Special friends Diane Tucker, Nancy Huffer, Beth Bullard, Dena Bullard, Carolyn Crum, Sally Semmler, Barbara Wilson, Sue Hagen, and John and Debbie Stokley.

Memorials can be made to the First Baptist Church of Carolina Beach.

Due to Covid, there will be a private family celebration of life.

    Ms. Bowen was my Sunday school teacher from the time I can remember! She had the BIGGEST HEART OF GOLD! When I think of her I smile because she was full of JOY!!! Jesus lives in her heart and she is with him now singing away!!!!

    I will never forget the time Ms Helen decided I should have a phone number of a man doing some work in the United Beach Vacations office. She made sure it happened. I have so many fond memories of my time working with her. She was a wonderful and loving person.
