Memorial Gifts & Donations

Helen Amigo was born November 16, 1935, and passed peacefully surrounded by her family on January 11, 2024. Born in NYC to Tessie and Stephen Maikisch who immigrated from Austria.  Helen met Lou on a double date BUT Lou was not her date.  He called her the next day and, as they say, the rest is history.   They built a beautiful life together on Long Island, NY.

Lou and Helen were married for 65 years, and they had 4 children, Theresa (Scott), Donna, Jennifer (Scott) and Louis (Suzanne) and 7 grandchildren Rebecca, Jack, Danielle, Carson, Gabrielle, Alex and Stephen.  Nanny was her favorite role.

Helen had a passion for family, travel, reading, old movies, garage sales and LISTS!  She had a list for everything. She also had a hate-hate relationship with technology.

Helen had many jobs in her life but the one she loved and excelled at most was with Coppercraft.  She was a top seller/recruiter and earned numerous trips including to Mexico, Majorca, the Netherlands and Hawaii.

In retirement, Lou and Helen moved to North Carolina.

Mom will be missed very much but we take comfort in knowing she is reunited in heaven with dad, is pain free and at peace.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 16th, 2024 at the Basilica of St. Mary, 412 Ann St., Wilmington 28401.

    Laura Sweetman Balancier says:
“Hundreds of stars in the pretty sky, Hundreds of shells on the shore together, Hundreds of birds that go singing by, Hundreds of birds in the sunny weather. Hundreds of dewdrops to greet the dawn, Hundreds of bees in the purple clover, Hundreds of butterflies on the lawn, But only one mother the wide world over.” Wishing you all peace and comfort at this time, Theresa, Donna, Jen and Louis. You are all testament to the wonderful parents who raised you. Rest in peace Helen and Lou. 💗 Laura
