Helen Dunn, of Wilmington was called home by her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at Azalea Skilled Nursing & Rehab Center. She was 86.
The eldest daughter of the late Richard Cleron Marks and Hilda Morris Marks of Delco, NC, Helen was a very strong and dedicated Christian woman who overcame many obstacles in her life through her faith in God and the love of her family and friends. She was a proud member of the First Christian Church in Wilmington. A nature lover, she enjoyed being outdoors in her garden and listening to the songbirds that visited it. She was a gifted cook and handy with arts and crafts, and delighted in gifting her family with homemade Christmas ornaments, holiday wreaths, and flower arrangements. “The Miracle Lady” to her children, “Mema” to her grandchildren, and “Monica” from ‘Touched by an Angel’ to her neighbors , Helen lived a long and fulfilling life , bringing joy to all who knew her. She will be sorely missed by all, but those who knew her best know that they will see her again soon.
She was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Edgar Vernon Dunn, three brothers, William Marks, Donald Marks and John A. Marks, and a sister Catherine Stowe.
She is survived by her aunt Louise Marks Slack of Wilmington; sister Hilda Babson and husband Delray of Zachary, LA; daughter, Gayle E. Cully of Wilmington; sons Mark Cully and wife Jeannie of Branson, MO and Tucker Cully and wife Tammy of Ocean Isle Beach; five grandchildren, Greg Cully, Candace Paul, Christopher Cully, Blaine Cully, and Kristen Cully; four great- grandchildren, Logan, Devon, Davis Cully and McKenna Paul; and many nieces and nephews.
A private ceremony will be held at a later date for close family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Hanover Humane Society, 2405 N. 23rd Street, Wilmington, NC 28401.
