Helga Martin Dougherty, 74, of Hearthside Drive Wilmington passed away Wednesday September 2, 2020 at the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare.

Helga was born in Idar-Oberstein, Germany on August 21, 1946 the daughter of the late Kurt Martin and Paula Schuch Martin. She was very active in her neighborhood where she loved her daily walks until her health would not allow. She was an avid reader.

Surviving are her son Sean Dougherty and his wife Erin; and the joy’s of her life grandchildren Thomas and Caitlin Dougherty all of Columbia, MD.

    Helga was a force to be reckoned one. In her quiet way, she made her case and her point. She served the neighborhood association for several years as treasurer and eventually, "treasurer emeritus", kindly offering advice and her trove of historical information. As she battled her illness, she showed true courage and ability to find joy in each day. We will miss this good neighbor.
