Hilda Virginia Herring Byrd, age 80 of Wilmington passed away Thursday, May 21, 2015 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCareCenter.

She was born in Robeson County on June 17, 1934 to Joseph Clifton Herring and Annie Ruth Stone Herring.

Hilda was a member of Winter Park Baptist Church. She was a retired Registered Nurse.

Hilda is survived by her husband, James Byron Byrd, Sr.; children, James Byron Byrd, Jr., Donna Byrd Gasecki, Alan Thomas Byrd, and Joe Eldrige Byrd; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren; three sisters, Lavonne Simmons, Sandra Horne, and Carolyn Hall.

Funeral services are planned for 11 am Friday, May 29, 2015 at Winter Park Baptist Church, 4700 Wrightsville Ave, Wilmington. The family will see friends starting at 10 am.

Burial will be in the Byrd Family Cemetery near Orrum, NC in Robeson County.
