Homer Mac Boney III, born on January 1, 1949, in Wilmington, NC, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2024, in his hometown. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend.

Throughout his life, Homer pursued various career paths, showcasing his diverse talents and unwavering work ethic. From serving as a Paralegal to protecting his community as a Wrightsville Beach Police officer, to delighting others with his culinary skills as a Chef at Grove Park Inn, and tending to the land as a Ranch Hand at the Biltmore Plantation, Homer’s commitment to excellence shone through in all that he did.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Homer found true joy in spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he adored. He also had a passion for golfing, Shag Dancing, music, ice skating, and cheering on the Carolina Hurricanes, finding solace and happiness in these activities.

Homer’s legacy of service extended beyond his civilian roles, as he proudly served as a Captain in the U.S. Coast Guard and Commander in the Royal Marines, demonstrating his unwavering dedication to his country and fellow servicemembers.

Homer is survived by his loving wife Louise, his children Rebecca Vanderhaar (Frank), Ruth Floyd (Mike), Debra Roberson (Keith), Richard Boney, Richard Joyner (Diane), and Russell  Joyner (Terri), as well as his brother John, grandchildren Brian Tucker,  Eric Joyner, (Mary), Mallory LeBeau (Aaron), Skylar, Colyn, Cameron and Imani Vanderhaar, Courtney Weaver (Nick), Jade Floyd, Dustin Whitehurst (Kimberly), Great-grands Andrew Staton, Mason and Maverick Weaver, Everest Whitehurst, many nieces and nephews, as well as a fur baby Dirk.  He is preceded in death by his parents Homer Mac Boney Jr. and Virginia Ann Sheffield, and his sister Susan B. Buckner.

Family and friends are invited to honor Homer’s life at a memorial service on March 16, 2024, at 11:00 AM at All Saints Parish, located at 2623 N. College Road, Wilmington, NC. In celebrating Homer’s life, let us remember his spirit of dedication, love, and service that will forever inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. May he rest in peace.
