Memorial Gifts & Donations

Horace Winfred Hyatt, 82, of Clinton, passed away Friday morning, June 22, 2018 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law who were caring for him.

Born the fifth of eight children to Maston and Rachel Hyatt in Dillon, S.C., Horace and his wife, Lois of 62 years, and their three children moved from Raleigh, N.C. where he was employed with Carolina Power and Light, to Roseboro, N.C. in 1969 to become “the light man” serving many areas including, Roseboro, Garland, Parkersburg, and Autryville, for 39 years.

He was an active member of the Masons, Eastern Star, Lion’s Club, and Shriner’s for many years.  He was a devoted member of Roseboro First Baptist Church where he served faithfully in many capacities for 49 years.

Horace embraced the verse “…it is more blessed to give than to receive” Acts 20:35.  As many will attest, he was known for stopping by with oranges, peaches, collards, or coins to brighten your day!

His friends knew him as a kind, honest, giving man.  His family knew him as a wonderful role model, a terrific gardener (who gave most of its yield away) and the best daddy in the world who came up with the oddest nicknames for his children and grandchildren.  He also used different names for common words enough that we had to stop and think about if we were saying the word correctly or Daddy’s way.

Horace, no doubt, is rejoicing in Heaven with his Heavenly Father and earthly parents along with his brothers, Fred (Irene) and Frank (Bobbie), and sisters, Zeldon, and Jeannette.

Those who will join him at a later date are his wife, Lois, his brother, Marvin (Lois), and sisters: Geraldine (we call her Toot), and Hazel. Also, his children, Ricky, Cheryl (Joey), and Pam. His grandchildren: Britt (John), Jason, Blake, Brey, Rachel, and Trin, and his great grandchildren: Ayla, and Lucille.

The family would like to thank those who were able to attend the Life Celebration held for him and his wife in October. Horace was overwhelmed by the outcome and the distance some traveled to attend.  He boasted to a number of friends that he had one family from New Jersey drive to share in the celebration.

Please join us again as we celebrate a life well lived. Saturday, July 7, 2018 10:00am Roseboro First Baptist Church
