Howard Leslie Kendall, 60, of Wilmington, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2014 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter.
He was born in Loma Linda, California to the late George and Marjorie Kendall. He met and married Sandra Sloop in 1978 and became a beloved father to his three children. Howard relocated to Wilmington in 1989 and started a tree removal business which he ran successfully for 12 years. In 2001 he discovered a second career as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Autumn Care of Myrtle Grove. His passion and dedication to providing compassionate care was appreciated by patients and their families alike. Recognized as the Direct Care Worker of the Year by the North Carolina Health Care Facilities Association in 2007, Howard accepted the award in his true humble spirit recognizing his career as a privilege bestowed upon him by the patients for which he cared. His genuine kindness and loving nature will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Howard is survived by his children; David Kendall (Andrea) of Riegelwood, NC; Hannah Lanier (Jimmy) of Leland, NC; and Nathan Kendall (Betsy) of Wilmington, NC; He is also survived by seven grandchildren Harmony, Noelani, Amya, Tyler, Nolan, Gracie and William; two brothers and two sisters. Together with his parents Howard was predeceased by a sister.
A Celebration of his life will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Wilmington Funeral Chapel.
