Memorial Gifts & Donations

Ida Frances “Frankie” Stewart Jones passed peacefully into the arms of our Heavenly Father on December 6, 2022 at NHRMC surrounded by her loving family. Frankie had a very outgoing personality and created many memories in the lives she touched.

Frankie was born in Wilmington, NC on 9-16-1943, the fourth of the four Stewart girls. She was predeceased by her parents Duncan and Ethel Stewart, her brother Milton Stewart, her sisters Sarah Paige, Kate Trevino and Ann Guzman, and her son Stewart Jones.

Frankie never met a stranger and used her humor and personality to make everyone around her feel at ease. She loved being from Carolina Beach. Her father, “Dunk” Stewart, was the swing bridge operator for access to Carolina Beach before the current high rise was built. Some of her work after high school included working at Garver Shirt Factory in Wilmington and working at the Carolina Beach Glove Factory on Harper Avenue in Carolina Beach. Following these jobs, Frankie briefly became assistant town clerk at Kure Beach and quickly moved into the town clerk position, which she held for 33 years, following the retirement of the town clerk. She loved the people and the town of Kure Beach and worked tirelessly to make it a better place. Frankie was a founding member of Seaside Chapel, singing in the choir, volunteering as the church clerk and working with the younger children in Sunday School and nursery. She also regularly assisted with the county Meals on Wheels program at Seaside. As a member of the New Hanover High School marching band, Frankie marched in the Azalea Festival parade and every year after, she loved attending many Azalea Festival activities. Frankie also really enjoyed beach music, dancing and watching live music. One of her favorite beach music songs was “Be Young, Be Foolish, Be Happy” by the Tams. As a member of the Stewart clan, Frankie grew and passed on to her family, a passion for the game of Scrabble, challenging her family in a game this past Thanksgiving. Frankie was also a long-time member of the Federal Point Historical Society.
A beach girl, Frankie loved spending time on the beach with family and friends. She really liked riding around the island in the busy summer months with the windows down listening and enjoying people as they enjoyed their vacation time here on the island and she loved all of the live music options in the summer months.

Frankie is survived by her husband of almost 60 years, Jimmy Jones, who has faithfully been by her side and cared for her over the last few years. She is also survived by her sons: Scott (Terri) and Danny (Sharon), grandchildren: Brittany Costin, Zack, Rachel, Alan, Erin Somaru, Phelan, Hannah, Corey, and Duncan, 3 great grandchildren: Brayden Miller, Olivia and Clara May. Also left to fondly remember Frankie are many cousins, nieces and nephews. The family also wants to mention 2 lifelong friends from 1st grade at Carolina Beach Elementary; Pat Jones and Juanita Winner. A special thank you to Elizabeth Farlow, a very caring, loving and helpful extended family member.

Services to remember this great wife, mom and friend will include visitation at Wilmington Funeral & Cremation from 6-8 on Thursday evening December 8th and a Celebration of Life Service officiated by David Rizor at Seaside Chapel, Carolina Beach on Friday December 9th at 11a.m., followed by a graveside service at Oleander Memorial Gardens.
