Irene Susan Vereen Mills, age 95 of Wilmington passed away Wednesday, December 15, 2021.

She was born in Marion, SC on July 23, 1926, to Herbert M. Vereen and  Ada Turbeville Vereen. Irene was the widow of Jodie Mills who passed away on April 23, 2004.

Irene was a resident of the Monkey Junction Community on Carolina Beach Road since 1952.  She worked at the Carolina Beach Fishing Pier for many years until her retirement, where she enjoyed meeting and helping many people and their families, visiting Carolina Beach and the fishing pier. She made many lifelong friends there. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to many. She was a great cook and hosted many meals at her home for her family.

Irene is survived by her loving and devoted children, Betty Turlington (Jimmy), Rebecca “Becky” Chilcote (Robert), and Vickie Hammonds; three grandchildren, Jimmy Turlington (Kristi), Jr., Angie White, and Jodi Chilcote; five great-grandchildren, Casey, Christopher, and  Carson Turlington,  Avery and Harper White.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Monday, December 20, 2021, at the graveside in Oleander Memorial Gardens on Bradley Dr., Wilmington beside her beloved husband Jodie.
