Jacqueline “Jackie” Loretta Powell, 64, lovingly known as Jackie, passed on to her heavenly home on October 1,2021 while surrounded by family.
Jackie was born January 4, 1957, in Conway, SC to Frances Amelia Graham and Gordon McCormick Powell better known as Jack. Jackie was preceded in death by both of her parents, her brother Jimmy Powell, her brother Billy Davis, and a special nephew Greg Powell. She is survived by her brother Gordon Powell “Vivian”, her brother Alan Davis “Kathy”, her sister Annie Powell, special nieces Jamie Saffo and Windy Powell, Joyce Midgett, who was like a second mother to Jackie, and her two special friends Darlyne and Jerry Delp Sr, along with many other nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends that loved her dearly.
Jackie was born a premature baby which resulted in her having cerebral palsy. Jackie had to have numerous surgeries on her legs, which enabled her to be able to walk with the assistance of crutches. Her surgeries were done through the Shriners Hospital for Children in Greenville, SC. Jackie was also a NC state poster child for the March of Dimes when she was 9 years old and had her picture displayed on billboards throughout NC and even posed for pictures with the governor. Jackie was also a cancer survivor, conquering both breast and uterine cancer.
Despite all of Jackie’s physical disabilities and obstacles, it was very rare to see Jackie without a huge smile on her face! She was literally a ray of sunshine to everyone she encountered! If you knew her, you loved her! Her wit and humor were her trademarks! You never knew what Jackie might say, but in most cases it would be something to make you laugh! She really was quite the comedian! But when Jackie wasn’t making you laugh, you could count on her to talk to you about her love of Jesus! Jackie was a devout Christian who loved the Lord with all her heart! She loved to sing Christian songs, listen to gospel music, and have the bible read to her and could easily recite scripture. She attended Community Chapel Baptist Church when she was able and considered this her primary church family. There is no doubt that Jackie is now rejoicing in heaven and dancing on streets of gold!
The memorial service will be held October 10, 2021, 11:00 am at Community Chapel Baptist Church, 2419 Malmo Loop Rd, Leland, NC 28451 and will be officiated by her brother, Pastor Gordon Powell.
