James Alton Carney

Memorial Gifts & Donations

James Alton Carney also referred to as “Jamie,” “bang bang,” and “Mr. C,” moved on Saturday, July 29th, 2023, after a long battle with cancer that spanned over a decade.

James was born on December 22nd, 1954, the first of five children to his late father, Clarence Carney, and mother, Betty Carney.

He served in the Coast Guard between 1977 and 1987, reaching E-6 rank; from there, he worked as a truck driver and eventually as a plumber, but nothing could compare to his love for God, and as such, he would take the path to become an Ordained minister.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Mary Carney, which he wants to be known as the woman he loves with all of his being. In addition to his wife, he also expressed his never-ending love for his surviving family, brothers Michael (and Angie) and Sheldon Carney, and sisters DeeDee (and Alan) and his late sister Doris (and Robert) Price, and each of his beautiful children, daughters Tanya (and Buddy), Janet (and James), Patrick, and Jesse—as well as his two stepchildren, Ariel and Shelby, and his many grandchildren.

We will all miss him dearly, but James’s love will live on in our hearts forever, in our memories of the laughter, tears, honeybuns, and coffee we shared. Through the tough times we endured together, the fish we caught, and the meaningful conversations we had. Although we may grieve the loss of James, he will always be right here in the love we shared, as it is timeless in our memories. Memories that we created with him in each of our own individual relationships, in what we learned from him, and also in what we taught him.`

We love you, James, and we know you are no longer suffering.

James never complained once of cancer rather always made sure everyone else around him was taken care of; a reflection of his positive outlook on life and his willingness to always help anyone in need without any judgment.
