Memorial Gifts & Donations

James “Jim” Clifton Cavenaugh, Jr (81) of Carolina Beach, NC passed away Monday, September 18th, 2023 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Jim was born at home in Duplin County, September 14th, 1942. He retired from General Electric (GE) in Castle Hayne, NC with over 30 years of service. He was known by many at GE for his training and “Cavenaugh College”.

Jim was predeceased by his wife Pat Cavenaugh, his parents James Clifton Cavenaugh, Sr and Helen Herring Cavenaugh and brother, Glynn Cavenaugh. He is survived by one son, Jonathan Dale of Wilmington, NC and two daughters, Roxanne Lee (Gerard) of Vero Beach, FL and Shelley Kilpatrick (Justin) of Southern Pines, NC. He is also survived by a sister, Elaine Peterson (David) of Riegelwood, NC and brother, David Cavenaugh (Rachel) of Rocky Point, NC. Jim is also survived by two grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, his “Cavenaugh Cousins” who were dear to him and his faithful companion, Lucky.

The family would like to thank the Neuro staff at Novant Health. Additionally, in his final years, Jim found a second home at the American Legion Post 129, Pleasure Island. We truly appreciate the friendship and compassion he received there and from his all of his neighbors, including Linda and Ray King and Bill.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to RescueConnect NC in honor of Lucky, the Lower Cape Fear Hospice, or the charity of your choice.

There will not be a service at this time. A lifelong lover of the sea, Jim’s ashes will be spread at a future date at one of his favorite places, Fort Fisher.
