Memorial Gifts & Donations

James Edward Wilfong, beloved Husband , Father and Pappy, entered the gates of Heaven to Eternal Rest on June 2, 2023. Born in Newton, NC on February 26, 1940, he spent his childhood days in Claremont, NC, before attending the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill (Class of 1962).

Jim never met a stranger; his charming approach and ability to talk at ease with anyone was endearing to all who knew him. He had a very successful career in Sales for over 50 years and lived in many different places throughout the US, although his roots always remained in North Carolina with his beloved Tarheels.

He was a loving Father to his daughters, Alicia Wilfong Betts and Amy Wilfong Brown. In times of crisis, he was always the first to show up and give guidance and support to all in need. He adored his grandchildren Kenna and Katie Betts and Orion and Jake Brown. At many times he served as father figure, role model and trusted advisor.

James is survived by his wife of 62 years, Janice Colleen McRee Wilfong, now residing in Leland; his daughters and grandchildren; his sister MarySue Miller of Claremont, and brothers Albert C. Wilfong of Davis, NC and John Wilfong of Orlando, FL.

He was preceded in death by his mother Phoebe Blackburn Wilfong and father Albert C Wilfong Sr, who was killed in action during World War II.

A Memorial Service celebrating his life well-lived will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 24, at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 3214 Catawba St, Claremont, NC 28610.

Family and Friends are welcome to join us for an after party to share memories , laughter and fellowship after the service at 3 Little Birds in Newton.

In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored and grateful for donations to Lower Cape Fear Life Care. The ladies who assisted the family for many weeks are truly angels and enabled us to keep him comfortably at home until his passing.

Jim was a good friend along with his wife Jan. I had the honor for working and being an an employee of his company Yorkshire Leather. Jim was an awesome, kind, caring, loyal employer and his wife Jan was always right there also. I truly treasured my time with them and hated when it ended. I pray God gives Jim’s family much comfort and peace at this time. Prayers and Love Nadine Walls ❤️🙏
