James Earl Bailey, Jr. “Jimmy” of Wilmington, NC passed away Thursday, September 21, 2023.
Jimmy was born October 3, 1949 to the late James Earl Bailey, Sr. and Edith Saunders Bailey.
He is survived by his sister, Veronica Bailey Sims, Nephews; Darron Sims (Gloria), Chris Sims (Ilana), Great Nephews and Nieces; Harrison Sims, Stuart Sims, Jillian Sims and Isabella Bailey Sims.
Jimmy worked at UNCW for many years in the cafeteria. He was a dedicated employee and well liked by his co-workers there. Jimmy had a dynamic personality. He “never met a stranger” and was a kind and loving friend. He would rarely leave a store without having a fun conversation with whoever he ran into while shopping. Jimmy was an avid collector of many items, a movie lover, a huge fan of character t-shirts and hats which helped show his personality and style. His biggest passion was music and dancing. He rarely missed the Carolina Beach music festival and he loved to go out and listen to bands and dance at local venues. He was front row showing his dance moves, always. His record collection was impressive and he knew all the words to many genres of music. We often referred to him as “Boogie”. His positive attitude about life almost seemed childlike until you really got to know him and then you realized his outlook on life was one to be admired. Jimmy spent a lot of time with Darron and Chris when they were growing up. He taught them about all of the popular music, played instruments with them, sang, danced, laughed and played games with them. He loved them dearly. He was dedicated to his mother and father and diligently helped them around the house. You would often find Jimmy just sitting in his room talking on the phone or on the computer talking and laughing with his friends. Jimmy loved all holidays but especially Christmas. He remembered all birthdays of those he loved and always acknowledged them. Jimmy was a master at being a good listener and loved sharing time just telling stories. He was always interested in whatever you wanted to talk about with him. He truly loved with all of his heart. His silly laugh and big smile will forever be in our memories. Jimmy will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Jimmy will be buried at Greenlawn Memorial Park in the family plot.
