James Edward Cumber


James Edward Cumber, Sr. of Currie passed away on April 29, 2011.

He was born on February 24, 1938 the son of the late Harvey Edward Cumber and Lee Omie Cumber, and was also preceased in death by his brother Carl Cumber.

He is survived by children, Joyce Cumber Webber and husband, Wayne; James Edward Cumber, Jr. and wife, Christy; Josie Taylor and husband Stan; and Chris Cumber and wife, Beth. He leaves his grandchildren, Robert W. Webber, Jr. and wife Karin; Ray Webber, Charles Webber and wife Cindy; Crystal Webber; CJ, Bailey, Ethan, Breanna and Logan Cumber; Joshua Haney; Kristen and Meigan Gambrell and great grandchildren, Angel Webber and Ashley Webber to cherish his memory. Also, surviving are his sisters, Pauline Watts, Rosie Matthiae and husband Ron, Alice Rouse and brother, Benjamin Cumber. In addition, he is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be 11 AM Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at Faith Baptist Church, 405 Shipyard Blvd, Wilmington, NC 28412 with Pastor Frank Hackworth officiating. The family requests donations be made to Faith Baptist Church in lieu of flowers.

    Although I didn't get to spend as much time with James, I know that he was a great man. He did a wonderful job raising his children. I was fortunate enough to marry one of his sons, and I am proud to carry on the Cumber name. James is loved by many and will be missed by all.
