James Franklin Meares, Sr. of Castle Hayne, NC passed away on Thursday October 30, 2008 at the New Hanover Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.
James was born January 18,1938 in Lumberton, NC, the son of the late Ertle Braxton Meares and Lillian Smith Meares. He was predeceased in death by his step-mother Edith Currie Meares, brothers Ertle Dewey Meares and Kenneth Eugene Meares, sisters Pamela Gail Meares and Mary Kay Freeman.
James is survived by his son James Franklin Meares, Jr. and wife Jessica of Virginia Beach, VA, daughter Mary Elizabeth Meares-Dominquez and husband Pablo Dominquez of Bolovia, and seven grandchildren: Alexander F. Meares, Evalyn Rose Meares, Kevin Cain, Breonna Cain, Melina Wilkins, Denny Wilkins, and Jose Corte; brothers, Robert Braxton Meares and wife Wanda of Lumberton, Charles Paul Meares Smith and wife Evelyn of New Kent, VA; sisters, Elva Mae Stroud of Hampton, VA; Ruth M. Jenkins of Castle Hayne, Betty F. Cunningham of Fayetteville, Frances L. Larame of St. Pauls, Gloria Jean Stanley of St. Pauls, Shirley Patricia Bumatay and husband Sam of Burlington, and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at Wrightsboro Baptist Church 2:30 p.m., Saturday, November 8, 2008. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service. The service will be conducted by Rev. Mike Lewis and Rev Keith Hollar.
