James “Jimmy” Byron Martin, 72, of Brunswick, NC went from flying in airplanes in his earthly life to flying with the Angels in Heaven on Tuesday, April 1, 2014.
Jimmy was born in Columbus County, NC on September 3, 1941 to the late Van Buren and Laura Lewis Alford Martin. He enjoyed going to the Columbus County Airport and flying with a lot of his friends for many years. He had retired some years back as a Lieutenant after spending 30 years with the N.C. Department of Correction. He was also a member of the Columbus County Shag Club for many years and enjoyed playing golf whenever he was able to do so. We know that Jimmy is now in the hands of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ whom he loved and that he has been reunited with all of his family that has gone on before, including his sister, Judy Vann Watts.
Surviving are his children, Gina Elliott and husband, Ted of Whiteville, NC, Pam Thilbault of Wilmington, NC and Jeff Martin and wife, Angela of Little River, SC; five grandchildren, Scarlett and Dylan Elliott, Nicholas and Cole Tribault, and Piper Martin: and brother, Seth D. Martin and wife Jennifer of Wilmington, NC.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Thursday at the Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn, NC.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm Friday, April 4, 2014 at the Worthington Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Bubba Grimsley and Pastor Brad Harrison.
Interment will follow in the Whiteville Memorial Cemetery.
