James “Jim” Matthew Crawford, beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday January 2, 2024, at the age of 79. Born on July 22, 1944, in Philadelphia, PA, Jim was a force of nature that would leave an indelible mark wherever he went.
Jim’s career spanned many years as a retired Mortgage Broker and financial advisor. With his sharp wit and keen eye for numbers, he navigated the world of finances with ease, helping countless individuals secure their dreams. When he wasn’t crunching numbers, Jim could be found on the tennis court, pickle ball court, or sinking shots on the billiards table. He had a deep appreciation for the beauty of nature and spent his days perfecting landscapes and exploring the great outdoors, especially hiking in the majestic mountains.
Jim’s thirst for knowledge led him to UNC, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in history. His passion for learning never waned, and he continued to expand his wisdom throughout his life.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Matthew Crawford and Rosalyn Sadoff, as well as his step-father Harry Rogers. He leaves behind a rich legacy of memories cherished by his son James Matthew Crawford Jr. and wife Sherri, daughter Erin McLeod Crawford Citty and husband Jonah, and the mother of his children, Mary Anne McLeod Crawford. His granddaughters Izzy and Delilah brought immeasurable joy to his life, and he treasured each moment spent with them.
Never one to underestimate the importance of loyal companions, Jim shared his home with his special canines Murphey, Chili, and Lil’ Winston. Their unwavering love and companionship provided comfort and laughter throughout the years.
Services to honor Jim’s life will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, January 14, 2023, at the Wilmington Funeral Chapel. Pastor Tim Reeves will officiate the service, and friends are welcome to pay their respects from 1 PM until service time.
