James Richard “Jimmy” Hayes, Jr., age 61 of Wilmington, NC passed away Monday, February 10, 2014.

Jimmy was born in High Point, NC on July 13, 1952. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, James Richard Hayes, and Helen Jacqueline Laws Howard.

Jimmy was retired from boat building working for Hatteras Yachts, Slane Marine, and a sales man at Crescent Ford and Capital Ford. He was a member of Numa F. Reid Masonic Lodge #0344, High Point, Andrew Jackson VFW Post # 1291, Nashville, TN, and the Y’s Men in High Point. He graduated from Ragsdale High School in Jamestown, NC in 1970.

Jimmy is survived by sons, James Richard “Jamie” Hayes, III of Wilmington, NC and Joshua Rowland Hayes of Adrian, WV; brother, John Edward Hayes of High Point and sister, Suzanne E. Hayes Stephens of Hermitage, TN; life companion, Josephine “Josie” B. Godwin of Wilmington, NC; his step mother Sallye Hayes of Darby, MT.

Celebration of Life ceremony will be held 4 PM Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Gateway Church, 4815 Wrightsville Ave., Wilmington, NC. His request was for Casual Attire for the service.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Jimmy’s name to Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation, 1406 Physicians Dr., Wilmington, NC 28401 or to Cancer Research of your choice.
