James Robert Barnes, a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend to many, passed away on January 17th, 2024 in Wilmington, NC. He was born on October 10th, 1952 in Wilson, NC.

Robert leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion to his family. He is survived by his loving wife Carolyn Barnes; his sister Brenda Kennedy, and his children Karen Bordeaux, Robbie Barnes, and Jennifer Trujillo. He leaves behind seven cherished grandchildren; Aubrey, Autumn, Ashley, Alex, Summer, Robert, and Kalyn.

He is preceded in death by his parents Marvin and Effie Barnes, and his son Damon Padgett.

Robert served as a Continuous Processing Operator at DuPont for 28 years, and spent an additional 15 years serving as the Director of Facility Services at Liberty Commons.

In addition to being a dedicated worker, Robert had many passions outside of work that brought him joy. He loved spending time outdoors fishing with friends or grilling up delicious barbecue meals for family gatherings. His enthusiasm for sports was evident through his unwavering support for the Carolina Tarheels basketball team along with being an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers football team and New York Yankees baseball team.

Those who knew Robert, will remember him for the kindness he showed towards others throughout his life. His warm smile and generous spirit touched countless lives over the years.

Services honoring Robert’s life will be held on January 20th from 2-4pm at Wilmington Funeral Chapel, where friends and family can gather together to celebrate his memory.

    I just happened to find this sad news of Robert's passing. I worked with both Robert and his wife Carolyn at DuPont. Both were very genuine nice folks. I send my deepest condolences to his family, he will be remembered and missed. To Carolyn and Robert's children I pray God will give you comfort in the coming days and weeks for the loss of your loved one. Blessings to you all.
