Janet Irena Yaggi, age 90, passed away peacefully at her residence in Wilmington on Saturday, November 15, 2014.
Janet was born August 16, 1924 and was a lifelong resident of Columbus, Ohio until her move to Wilmington in 2012 to be with her family. She was the daughter of Dr. George B. McClellan and Myriam H. Denser.
Janet studied fine arts at Ohio State University and was an accomplished artist who has many oil and watercolors on display. She was a long standing member of the Clintonville Woman’s Club, a lifelong member of North Broadway United Methodist Church, and a member of The United Methodist Women of Grace United Methodist Church. Janet was a Girl Scout leader, an extraordinary cook and homemaker. She always had a smile and the ability to quickly become friends with young and old alike. She will be greatly missed by all her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Janet was predeceased in death by her two daughters, Janeen Lee Mapes and Julie Anne Carpenter, her stepson Henry K. Yaggi III; her daughter-in-law, Margie Weeks Peck; and her past husbands, Dr. Henry Klar Yaggi and Mr. John Edwin Peck.
Janet is survived by her son, John Martin Peck of Wilmington, NC and by her daughters Elsa Campbell and husband Warren of Stoutsville, Ohio and Marsha Drosos and husband George of Columbus, Ohio, and Mary Jane O’Brien and husband Ron of Islamorada, Florida. She is also survived by her 6 grandchildren: Jessica Shepard and husband John, Erika Everett and husband James, Brian Miller and wife Jessica, all of San Francisco, California, Christina Norvell and husband Jackson, Michelle Savard and husband John both of Wilmington, NC, Heather Pike and husband Dennis of Carrboro, NC. She is survived by her four great granddaughters: Waverly Margie Pike, Sylvie Camellia Pike, Virginia Grey Norvell and Ella Rae Everett.
A celebration of Janet’s life will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, November 20, 2014 at Wrightsville United Methodist Church with Rev. Robert Bauman and Mr. Jackson Norvell officiating. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall. An interment will be held at Sunset Cemetery in Columbus, Ohio at a later date.
The family would to thank all of her healthcare providers and very special friends both in Wilmington and Columbus and her kind neighbors in Ashley Park.
