Memorial Gifts & Donations

Janice Faye Woods Simmons, 62, of Wilmington, NC, passed away December 29, 2012, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Simmons was born in Tazwell, TN, to the late Thelma Mae Moyers Woods and Earnest Briscoe Woods. Also preceding her in death, her son, Dennis Simmons.

She was a member of Life Community Church and was a published novelist and poet. She was a member of Coastal Writer’s Group.

Mrs. Simmons was a true woman of God. She loved God with all her heart, mind, and soul. She was transformed by God’s love. One week before she went to heaven she said, “God told me that something big is about to happen. He has prepared me for this moment from birth and everything that has happened in my life has led to this very moment. Soon you will fly.” She heard God’s heart. He loved her so much, that He shared His heart with her. She has truly overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of her testimony. We are so fortunate that we had another year with her. She was a cancer survivor, and God healed her and gave us more time to her. He is so good.

Survivors include her husband, Franklin Eugene Simmons; three children, Connie Turner, of Rose Hill, Spence Turner, of Wilmington, and Jeanie Hernandez, of Wilmington; two brothers, Dennis Woods and L.A. Woods, both of Sharps Chapel, TN; and 12 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2 PM Thursday at Wilmington Funeral Chapel.

Burial will follow in Seagate Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the chapel from 12 – 2 PM on Thursday.

Memorials may be made to Life Community Church, 3500 Oleander Drive, Wilmington, NC 28403.

We were so privilege to have known Janice for a short time as she attended our church a few years back. Always A pleasant and kind women .. loved her family..she was the momma to all the teenage girls at that time..her daughter Jeanie and my daughter Michelle were best friends so we became friends with Janice.. So proud of her living testimony of how she loved the Lord.. and now she is with him...to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Prayers continue For the family but Janice has met her destiny .. thank God for comfort. And grace..
