Janice Woods Simmons

Janice Faye Woods Simmons, 62, of Wilmington, NC, passed away December 29, 2012, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Simmons was born in Tazwell, TN, to the late Thelma Mae Moyers Woods and Earnest Briscoe Woods. Also preceding her in death, her son, Dennis Simmons.

She was a member of Life Community Church and was a published novelist and poet. She was a member of Coastal Writer’s Group.

Mrs. Simmons was a true woman of God. She loved God with all her heart, mind, and soul. She was transformed by God’s love. One week before she went to heaven she said, “God told me that something big is about to happen. He has prepared me for this moment from birth and everything that has happened in my life has led to this very moment. Soon you will fly.” She heard God’s heart. He loved her so much, that He shared His heart with her. She has truly overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of her testimony. We are so fortunate that we had another year with her. She was a cancer survivor, and God healed her and gave us more time to her. He is so good.

Survivors include her husband, Franklin Eugene Simmons; three children, Connie Turner, of Rose Hill, Spence Turner, of Wilmington, and Jeanie Hernandez, of Wilmington; two brothers, Dennis Woods and L.A. Woods, both of Sharps Chapel, TN; and 12 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2 PM Thursday at Wilmington Funeral Chapel.

Burial will follow in Seagate Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the chapel from 12 – 2 PM on Thursday.

Memorials may be made to Life Community Church, 3500 Oleander Drive, Wilmington, NC 28403.

I will forever be grateful for the beautiful Mother and woman of God she was. I know she is in Heaven and have no doubt. I know that I will see her again. She has overcome by the blood of the lamb and the word of her testimony. I will miss you throughout the remaining of my journey.

    Denise A. O'Neill says:
I have never had the privilege to meet Janice in person but we worked together at Ameriprise Financial.....her in Wilmington and me in Raleigh. Even after we both left AMPF we kept in contact - as I consider her to be a good friend and we confided and cried with each other with all of our woes and triumphs. Janice was a beautiful person and I will miss our little chats immensely. I am devastated to learn of her passing. RIP Janice you will be sorely missed by me.....:( Denise

    Janice Mathis says:
Janice was a true woman of God. I always enjoyed her wonderful hugs at church. Not too long ago while she was hugging me, she told me she felt something wrong and gave me an extra hug that day. It was so needed as something I was going through. She knew my spirit. She will be dearly missed, but knowing she is walking those streets of gold & feasting at the table of the Lord is very comforting. Looking forward to seeing you again one day Janice.
