Memorial Gifts & Donations

Jason (Jay) Robert McEnroe 51, of Leland, North Carolina, unexpectedly, as the result of motor vehicle accident on October 3, 2022 in Bolivia, North Carolina

Jay was born on February 23, 1971 in Corning, New York, the second son of Bob and Elaine (Stephanie) McEnroe.

After graduation from Corning West High School where he played Varsity baseball , Jay attended and graduated from SUNY at Brockport.  Jason then relocated to Wilmington, NC with his wife Melinda (DeJoseph), where he was employed at Blitz Research for many years.  At the time of his death Jay was employed by Walmart.

Jay remained an avid hockey, baseball and football fan throughout his life. He also enjoyed “grilling” and was proud of his, often unusual, results.

Jay was predeceased by his beloved father “Blades”, his grandparents and several aunts and uncles.

Jason is survived by his wife Lori (Hassler-Karnes), son Colin, mother Stephanie, brothers Eric and Jared,  step-sons, Caleb, Johnathan and Benjamin and step-daughter Karleigh, nieces Rachel and Emily and nephew Nicholas and his son’s mother Melinda as well as life-long “brothers” Gino and Jeff and many, many cherished friends.  At Jason’s request there are no calling hours.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on November 3, 2022 at Immaculate Conception Church, 6650 Carolina Beach Road, Wilmington with a celebration of life to follow Mass at the Moose, 4610 Carolina Beach Road, Wilmington.  Jay’s wish was that you wear your team jersey to his life celebration and recall your “discussions” regarding the teams.

In lieu of flowers Jason and the family request a donation be made to the local animal shelter/SPCA in his honor.

I knew Jason since he was a toddler. He became a bright, diligent, funny, passionate man whose life was inspirational and whose early death is tragic. Michael Gilmartin, Corning, NY

    Melinda McEnroe McMillan says:
Jay....Jay.... this sucks. You were supposed to be here to be a dad to Colin. At the same time, I hope you are with your dad and looking down on us and having so many laughs. Lori, you are amazing and so strong. Steph, you are as well. May the memories of Jay carry us all through. He was one of kind and gone way too soon.
