Memorial Gifts & Donations

Jean Dietrich died in Wilmington on August 8, 2021.

Jean was born in England on August 5, 1932 to Mr and Mrs J. T. Portman. Her sister Phyllis Portman survives her in England. Jean very proudly became a Naturalized Citizen of the United States on April 6, 1978. Jean had a thirty year career with Mutual of New York (M.O.N.Y).

Jean’s husband Andrew B Dietrich preceded her in death in 2000. She and Andy retired to Wilmington in 1989, and loved living in the home they designed in Eastwood Village. Jean enjoyed golfing at Pine Valley and volunteering. She was a regular volunteer at Thalian Hall and Wilmington International Airport and many other venues.

Jean dearly loved the Dietrich family, David Dietrich (Lynn), Randy Dietrich (Kim), Greg Dietrich (Liliana) and Lorren Sandt (Kevin) and they loved her too and they will cherish her memory. Four grandchildren Dana, Turner, Molly and Mara will always remember happy times spent at Wrightsville Beach.

Jean’s family thank her best friend Jill Hobson and all the Health Care Professionals who have helped and cared for Jean on her journey.

The family has planned a Memorial Gathering from 1 to 3 pm Saturday, May 21, 2022 at the Eastwood Village Club House, 1312 Two Mile Circle East, Wilmington, NC 28405

For the family and friends of Jean....I loved visiting with her during our various volunteer activities at Thalian and at Wilmington Airport. I loved her spunk as well as her smarts, kindness and respect for all. I'm sure the good Lord is taking extra special care of her now!!
