Jeanne Rae Griffin Ritchey, age 67, of Carolina Beach, NC passed away from cancer on Thursday, Dec 2, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family.
She is now at peace joining her son, Richard “Paul” Fowler and parents, James and Jimmie Sue Griffin. She is survived by her son and daughter in law, Brian and Heather Fowler of Durham, NC and daughter and son in law, Brooke and Jeff Pearce of Carolina Beach, NC. She had 5 grandchildren that she adored, Connor (Carlyn) Fowler, Chandler Fowler, Claire Fowler and Griffin Pearce and Jackson Pearce. Jeanne had a special sibling bond with brother, Kenny Griffin and sister, Sandy Griffin as well as a large loving extended family that will greatly miss her.
Jeanne was born May 8, 1954 in Georgetown, KY to James and Jimmie Sue Griffin. She graduated from Lafayette High School in Lexington KY. Immediately after high school, at the age of 17, Jeanne went to work for the telephone company. She had a very successful 30 year career with GTE that relocated her and her family to Durham, NC and later retired to Carolina Beach, NC.
After retirement, Jeanne moved to Carolina Beach, NC full time where she carved out her own personal piece of heaven on the beach. She loved the salt air, sunshine, and gardening. Her home became a sanctuary for herself, family and friends to retreat to for healing, relaxation, and fun. Years of wonderful memories were created on the beach and around her pool by family. If you listen hard enough right now you will hear the sound of the ocean, the breeze and laughter! That is her legacy.
Jeanne Rae will be celebrated in a private family gathering later in December.
