Memorial Gifts & Donations

Jerry Wayne Richardson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, co-worker, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2024, in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Jerry was born on November 26, 1945, on a farm in Vance County, North Carolina. Growing up in Henderson, living and working in Durham, Cary, and Gastonia, and retiring to Wilmington, Jerry showed how much he loved his home state. After excelling in high school, where he served as Student Council President, Jerry attended North Carolina State University. Here, he earned a degree in Engineering, a testament to his intellect and determination.

Jerry was a hard-working and loyal employee of PSNC Energy for his entire career, working for them in Durham, Cary, and Gastonia, NC. He dedicated 38 years to PSNC, eventually earning the position of President and Chief Operating Officer. His children recall that, even after becoming an executive with PSNC, Jerry would go with his field teams to emergency calls – often in winter in the middle of the night.  This level of commitment earned him the admiration and respect of both his superiors and fellow employees – who would often mention that admiration to his sons when they visited him at work.

Jerry will always be remembered for his wry sense of humor and personal generosity. His unwavering love for his family was evident in every aspect of his life. He was a loving husband, devoted father, and an exceptional grandfather. He never met a stranger and was always ready to extend a helping hand or offer words of encouragement.

Jerry found solace and strength in his faith as a member of St. Jude’s Metropolitan Community Church in Wilmington, NC. This community provided him with spiritual guidance, comfort, and a sense of belonging.

Jerry is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Lisa C. Richardson, his children, Jason Richardson and wife, Kierstyn, and David Richardson and wife, Angela. He is also survived by Lisa’s children, Sean Walker, and Jonathan (Jon) Walker, and wife, Lizelle. Jerry’s memory lives on through his nine grandchildren, Lauren, Jackson, Kaitlyn, Ryan, Lily, Adalie, Knox, Briony, and Coral. He cherished every moment spent with them and created bonds that they will remember forever.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Brodie Allen Richardson and Lucille Capps Richardson.

He also leaves behind a host of cherished family members and friends.

A celebration of Jerry’s remarkable life will be held at 1:00 Saturday  January 27, 2024 at  St. Jude’s Metropolitan Community Church,  19 North 26th Street Wilmington, NC 28405.

The family would like to express their gratitude to dear friends, Jim Cain and Drew Culwell, and to all Jerry’s caregivers, particularly Sonya Turner, Catrina Patrey, Lissi Rabon, Wendy Hobbs, and Lower Cape Fear Hospice Team for their compassionate care and support during Jerry’s illness.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials in Jerry’s honor be made to St. Jude’s Metropolitan Community Church.

We welcome online condolences at www.wilmingtoncares.com.

We extend our deepest sympathies to the Richardson family during this difficult time. May Jerry’s spirit continue to inspire us all to live with kindness, laughter, and love.

Wilmington Funeral & Cremation Service is entrusted with the arrangements – 1535 South 41st Street, Wilmington, NC 28403910-791-9099.

    Laura Bolesta says:
Lisa, My heartfelt sympathies to you at this time of mourning. I didn’t know Jerry very long, just since I joined St. Judes last Christmas time. But Jerry’s smile and friendliness made our entry to the church ever so much warmer. He knew he was sick however it was important to him to greet newcomers. I don’t know what it is about this church but I know that Jerry’s presence will be greatly missed. But we will be with you to comfort you during the coming months, we love you very much and hurt too for your loss! Big Hugs.
