Joan Kienker Apke, age 86, of Wilmington, passed away Sunday, September 17, 2017, at her home.

Joan was born on February 1, 1931 to Frederick and Annetta Kienker in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Joan was a faithful member of Winter Park Presbyterian Church. She was an active member of Cape Fear Chapter #346  and Federal Point Chapter #361 Order of Eastern Star and had the honor of serving as Worthy Matron for several terms.  She was a member of the Ladies of the Wilmington Shrine Club. Joan was proud to be a Registered Nurse and practiced until her retirement from New Hanover Regional Medical Center. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all who knew her.

Joan is survived by her husband of 63 years, Joe Apke; two daughters, Barbara Apke and Sue Apke; one son, Matt Apke and his wife Rhonda Apke; two grandchildren, Joshua Apke and wife Krystal, and Brianna Apke. Her son Joel Apke and her sister June Kannenberg preceded her in death.

Family visitation will be from 2:00 to 3:30pm Wednesday at Winter Park Presbyterian Church Chadbourn Hall.

Celebration of Life ceremony will be held 3:30 pm Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at Winter Park Presbyterian Church officiated by Rev. Emile Harley. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Tom Kennedy, Jim Turner, Brian Kieb, Joshua Apke, Freddie Szakasits, and Jimmy Hyatt.

In lieu of flowers remember Joan with a memorial gift to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation, 1414 Physicians Dr., Wilmington, NC 28401.
