    Phil Manning says:
About 40 years ago Joan organized a group of a dozen or so tennis-playing couples. We played at Pinehurst and Sanibel, at the Isle of Palms , Calloway, and other remote and occasionally exotic spots, usually under Joan’s watchful eye. Today, a few of us still hang together. We all remember Joan fondly and will hold on to those memories. I extend my deepest condolences to her family and hope they will recall the good times we all had. Goodbye, Joan, we will miss you.

    Peggy Price Erickson says:
Joan and I were members of a Newcomers Book Club for at least 9 years, until our group got too small to continue. Joan always had such great insight into our book selections. I have many fond memories of meetings at her home, with her mother in attendance, and having such wonderful discussions about the books and life in general. I will miss Joan greatly and want to extend my deepest sympathy to her family.

We knew Joan from her Waterford days and had the pleasure of spending several Thanksgivings with the Boyer family. Joan was a great friend, always interested, always curious, adept at reinventing herself, and a wonderful mother to her children.
