Joan Draper Adam, a dedicated homemaker and woman of faith, peacefully passed away on December 18, 2023, at the age of 84. Born on March 14, 1939, in East Liverpool, Ohio, she fought a valiant 25-year battle against breast cancer.
Joan was an exceptional woman who found joy and purpose in taking care of her family. Her loving presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She graduated from high school in her hometown of East Liverpool before embarking on a lifelong journey as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
Joan’s faith was an integral part of her life, and she was an active member of the First Christian Church of Wilmington. She found solace and strength in her spiritual beliefs and shared that love with those around her.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Harry and Grace Draper. Joan is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, Tom Adam, whom she married on October 29, 1960; her sons, Rick Adam (Debbie) and Chris Adam (Stacey); her sister, Janet Navarro (Al); her grandchildren, Chase Parks (Rachel), Jordan Adam Bradley (Walker), Sarah Adam Bignault (Sam), Matthew Adam, and Morgan Adam; her great-grandchildren, Penny Iliadis and Nora Iliadis; her special uncle, Jack Wheeler and her niece, Sarah Lynn Adam Chase.
A memorial service to honor Joan’s life will be announced in the future, allowing loved ones the opportunity to come together and celebrate her cherished memory. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that contributions be made to Lower Cape Fear Lifecare, a cause close to Joan’s heart.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to all of Joan’s doctors throughout the years for their unwavering support and care. They are especially thankful for the compassionate and dedicated staff at Lower Cape Fear Lifecare, who were like angels on earth during Joan’s journey.

A memorial service to celebrate Joan’s life will be held at First Christian Church located 2035 Oleander Drive, Wilmington, NC 28403 on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 11:00 A.M.
