Joan Kumpel Greene 78, of Wilmington, NC passed away in the early morning hours on Monday, January 17, 2022 at the Lower Cape Fear LifeCareCenter.
Joan was born on May 3, 1943 in Jersey City, NJ to the late Clarence Robert and Alice Ida Kennedy Berwick. She retired form UNC-W in the Public Safety Administration Department. She is also preceded in death by her husband David Greene and sister Carol B. Ostrander.
Surviving are her son Fred Kumpel and wife Melissa; daughter Dana McKoy and husband Al; longtime companion and partner Wayne Huggins; sister Bonnie Wright and husband George. Surviving nieces Charlene Wright; Donna Cole; Karen Farragher; Lori Moore and a Nephew Patrick Kelly along with their spouses, children, and many other extended family members, friends, neighbors, former co-workers, and much a much-loved Chihuahua named Abby.
A private family remembrance will be held in the coming weeks.
