CHARLOTTE, NC – Joan Perrell, known to friends and family as Joan, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at the age of 82. Born on January 24, 1942, in Fort Bragg, NC, Joan brought joy, laughter, and a touch of wit into the lives of those she met.

Joan’s career as an accountant with GMC in Charlotte showcased her remarkable skills with numbers, but it was her quick wit and infectious smile that truly set her apart. She effortlessly transformed mundane spreadsheets into comedic masterpieces, leaving coworkers in stitches and never failing to brighten their day.

Outside of her professional life, Joan was a proud member of the Eastern Star, where she found solace and friendship among kindred spirits. Her dedication to this organization was a testament to her caring and generous nature, always ready to lend a helping hand or share a laugh.

Joan is preceded in death by her parents, Archie Hilburn McLeod, Sr., and Susan Alice Buie McLeod, as well as her brother, Archie H. McLeod, Jr.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter cherished by her beloved husband, Dave Perrell, and daughter, Belinda P. Elchert. Also mourning her loss are her sisters, Mary Anne M. Crawford and Marcia M. Pinyan, as well as her granddaughter, Roxanne Deaton. Her great-grandchildren, Lillian, Layla, and C.J., will forever remember the warmth of her embrace and the twinkle in her eye.

A service honoring Joan’s vibrant life will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, February 18, 2024, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Red Spring, NC. The burial will follow in the Buie Family Cemetery, where she will rest beside her ancestors. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until the time of the service, providing an opportunity to share cherished memories and celebrate a life well-lived.

As we bid farewell to Joan, let us remember her for the laughter she brought into our lives, her sharp wit that could brighten even the dullest moments, and her unwavering love for family and friends. Though she may be gone, her spirit will forever live on in our hearts. May she find eternal peace in the arms of her loved ones who have gone before her.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the local animal shelters in Charlotte, NC, in her memory.

The earliest I remember Joan was in the 7th grade. She was a dear, funny soul. She left with her family (Okinawa perhaps) and later returned. She always had a smile, had loads of friends and we all loved her. What a treasure she was.
