Memorial Gifts & Donations

Joann Pino Swann – formerly of Highland Park, NJ and Stuart, Florida – passed away on Wednesday June 20, 2012 in Wilmington, NC with her daughters, Joann and Judith at her side. Due to their love, constant care and devotion, Joann was able to depart peacefully from her home.

Joann was born May 9, 1929 in Tacoma, WA, the daughter of the late Arthur and Hazel Collier Nicholson and grew up in Edison, NJ. She graduated from New Brunswick High School where she was a drum majorette.

Survivors include her three daughters: Judith Pino Moore and husband Jeffrey of Wilmington, NC, Cynthia Stevens – Pino and partner Marsha of St. Petersburg, FL, Joann Pino DeLuca of Wilmington, NC; and four sons: Gary Pino of Boulder, CO, Christopher Pino and wife Carrie of Santa Rosa, CA, Todd Pino and wife Kelley of Fort Meyers, FL, Craig Pino and wife Alice of Southlake, TX; her first husband, Gerard Pino, eleven grandchildren and one great grandson. She was predeceased by her second husband, Stewart Swann.

Joann spent her last two years in Wilmington, NC enjoying her cooking show and HGTV while she held court in her red chair. Her treasured companions included Chester, Joann’s puppy and her home health aide, Teresa, who her helped us maintain her in the home. She often recalled her happy days in Stuart, FL and her friends at Oceanview. Joann often talked about her deceased twin, Janice. They had a special bond that remains. In her own words

Joann summed up her life with “we had fun”. We will miss her sparkle and snappy replies that kept all of us in our proper places. Despite a hard start in life, Joann had a positive, can-do attitude that she demonstrated right up until her departure. We know she now is at peace with Janice, probably continuing their mischievousness.

Services will be private.
Many thanks to the support we received from the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Palliative Care Team. Memorials may be directed to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive Wilmington, NC 28401 or the hospice of your choice.

Dear Grammy, You were such a strong, elegant, and classy woman. You had a knack for telling it like it was and you didn't tolerate any nonsense! Those are qualities I see in myself and cannot help but think that they came from you! I will cherish all of the great memories I have with you..the clothes you used to sewed for your grandchildren, with matching outfits for the dolls, your rib recipe, and my favorite memory, when you took me to get my ears pierced after convincing my dad. Now when I put in earrings, I will always be reminded of you! Lots of love always, I miss you dearly.
