John Albert Rothrock, 87, of Wilmington, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2013 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Born on July 5, 1925 in Kenvil, NJ, he was the son of the late John Earnest and Margaret Smith Rothrock. He was a veteran of the US Army where he served as a Tec Sgt. and was a graduate of the University of Delaware with a degree in chemical engineering. For 38 years, John was a loyal employee of Union Carbide Chemicals & Plastics and Niacet Corporation. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. An avid woodworker, John made grandfather clocks and furniture, and was a self-taught handyman. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and volunteered at the church and with Meals on Wheels for many years. John was a true sports fan, loved watching baseball on TV and rooting for the Atlanta Braves, or anyone playing against the Yankees.

Surviving, are his wife, Phyllis Andrick Rothrock; a son, Steve Rothrock (Dru) of Dublin, OH; two daughters, Linda Kelly (Steve) of Wilmington, NC, Nancy Cochran (Bo) of Ashburn, VA; five grandchildren, Ryan Rothrock, Ashleigh Rothrock, Tara Kelly, Ben Cochran, Sydney Cochran; and two nieces, Sue Billing and Fay Cepeda. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Barbara Billing.

A memorial service will be 1:30 pm Thursday in the chapel of
Brightmore of Wilmington; 2324 S. 41st Street; Wilmington, NC 28403.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina; 1314 Marstellar Street; Wilmington, NC 28401.
